Service Details:

The initial phase will operate as an extension of the existing Middleborough/Lakeville Line using diesel-hauled trains. Trains will run west from downtown Middleborough, with Middleborough station replacing the existing Middleborough/Lakeville station, then turn south at Cotley Junction to reach East Taunton station. At Myricks Junction, the line will split into two branches: one leading to Fall River station via Freetown station, and the other to New Bedford station via Church Street station. The service will include 16 weekday and 13 weekend round trips between Boston and East Taunton, divided between Fall River and New Bedford. Fall River/New Bedford Line commuter service will begin on March 24, with a one-way ticket to Boston costing $12.25.

By Train – Fall River/New Bedford Line 

Great news for New Bedford commuters! After decades of anticipation, the MBTA’s South Coast Rail project  – the Fall River/New Bedford Line is set to restore commuter rail service between Boston and New Bedford, with operations scheduled to begin on March 24, 2025, connecting you to our vibrant communities and scenic landscapes in under an hour. Venture from Fall River or New Bedford to Boston with new train services, bringing the rich history and vibrant culture of Boston within easy reach. For train schedules, visit MBTA.

New Bedford Stations:

  • New Bedford Station: Located at 536 Acushnet Avenue, this station boasts an 800-foot-long accessible high-level side platform on the east side of the New Bedford Subdivision. Amenities include a parking lot with 352 spaces, 22 bicycle spaces, and a convenient kiss-and-ride area.

 

  • Church Street Station: Situated in northern New Bedford at 387 Church Street, this station features a similar 800-foot-long accessible high-level side platform, complemented by a parking lot offering 354 spaces and 22 bicycle spaces.
