"A small island tucked between Buzzards and Nashetucket Bays, West Island is connected to Sconticut Neck in FairHaven by a causeway. Here you can relax, swim, or hike up along the water to North Point. Even on the hottest of summer days, it never gets crowded. For those that like to kayak you can enjoy the shelter of Nasketucket Bay or venture out south into Buzzard's Bay. For a day of great views, biking and beach...consider parking at Fort Phoenix Park and biking down to Sconicut Neck across the causeway to West Island and staying awhile on this quiet town beach. West Island Town Beach is operated by the Town of Fairhaven and open to the public. Passes are available at the BPW Office, 5 Arsene Street, or at the entrance gate to the beach. Swimming lessons are offered by the lifeguards (Applications available at BPW Office.)"
