Free outdoor performances of Shakespeare -- often called “Shakespeare in the Park" -- are a popular rite of summer in big cities such as New York and Nashville. And thanks to its affiliation with Boston-based Striving Artists Theatre Company (SAC), Fall River Historical Society proudly takes part in this tradition.
SAC has previously performed two of Shakespeare’s great comedies at the FRHS, Taming of the Shrew and A Midsummer Night's Dream. This year, SAC will present two performances of Merry Wives of Windsor on the Historical Society grounds, located at 451 Rock Street in Fall River. And as you can see from the photos, it won’t be Shakespeare as usual! So if you find his plays intimidating, this one may well change your mind. SAC is known for its innovative contemporary approach to the playwright and ability to make him accessible.
This is the fifth season of SAC’s Shakespeare in the Park series, which is held in only three towns and cities each summer. The performance at Fall River Historical Society starts at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19. There will be a second performance on Sunday, July 20, also at 4:00 p.m. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket, and feel free to bring a picnic supper; no refreshments will be sold. There is no charge for admission. Please join us!
