David Jacobs-Strain in New Bedford

Friday, May 19, 2017 - 7:30pm to 10:00pm

David Jacobs-Strain is known for both his virtuosity and spirit of emotional abandon; his live show, featuring Bob Beach’s haunting or driving harmonica, moves from humorous, subversive blues, to delicate balladry, and then swings back to swampy rock and roll. It’s a range that ties Jacobs-Strain to his own generation and to guitar-slinger troubadours like Robert Johnson and Jackson Browne. The Washington Post said of David Jacobs-Strain “His acoustic and electric guitar work is crisp and driven, and his voice can rise to a soulful pitch or fall quietly in sync with a loping beat. His imagery-rich tales—well, it’s not hard to imagine some of them being covered by the likes of John Hammond Jr . . . . or Boz Scaggs. . .” David Jacobs-Strain turns new generations on to the complex yet simple beauty of the blues.

David Jacobs-Strain has appeared at festivals from British Columbia to Australia, including Merlefest, Telluride Blues Festival, Philadelphia Folk Festival, New Bedford Folk Festival, Bumbershoot, and Blues to Bop in Switzerland. He’s taught at Jorma Kaukonen’s Fur Peace Ranch, and at fifteen years old was on the faculty at Centrum’s Blues and Heritage workshop. On the road, he’s shared the stage with Lucinda Williams, Boz Scaggs, Etta James, The Doobie Brothers, George Thorogood, Robert Earle Keen, Todd Snider, Taj Mahal, Janis Ian, Bob Weir, T-Bone Burnett, and Del McCoury.
