Join us July 5 - 8 at Coast Guard Park, south side of State Pier to meet the crew and view a traditional Hawaiian double-hulled voyage canoe, Hokulea, as it makes a historic visit to New Bedford! New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park and City of New Bedford, will be hosting the vessel and its crew as it makes its worldwide voyage. The crew will offer canoe tours, dockside activities, as well as connect with members of local area Native American tribes. The Hokulea has voyaged traditionally for 40 years, using only star navigation, sailing over 150,000 nautical miles throughout the Pacific. Their recent worldwide voyage began in 2013 with a Malama Hawaii sail throughout the Hawaiian archipelago, and in 2014 to 2015, two of their canoes visited 24 islands and six countries throughout Polynesia. Take advantage of this one of a kind opportunity to experience and learn the traditions of New Bedford's South Sea cousins.
